Evidence shows that women with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, or IBD, are as fertile as the normal population and can have healthy births. While this means that childbearing is not out of the question for women with Crohn's Disease, it is still recommended that they are cared for by a high-risk obstetrician. The most important element to a successful pregnancy is having disease under control before getting pregnant, and keeping it under control during pregnancy. This means that a family planning discussion needs to take place between a patient and her gastroenterologist to find the best options for her.
