Heart Disease- TX: San Antonio- Steven R. Bailey, MD, FACC, FACP
Steven R. Bailey MD, FACC, FACP, is an internationally recognized expert in the field of interventional cardiology. Dr. Bailey is Interim Chief of Cardiology and Director of the Catheterization Laboratories and Interventional Cardiology at the University Hospital of the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio (UTHSC-SA). He is also Professor of Medicine and Radiology at UTHSC-SA and occupant of the Janey Briscoe Distinguished Chair in Cardiovascular Research. Dr. Bailey received his BA in Biology from the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon, his MD from the University of Oregon Health Science Center at Portland and his Postdoctoral from Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center at Aurora CO.

Dr. Bailey’s translational research interests include nanosensors, nanosynthesized metals and new implantable medical devices. He holds several patents in these areas. He has been active in planning and conducting interventional research on new devices including the Palmz-Schatz stent, Rotoblator, Atherocath, Angiojet and local delivery catheters. In addition, he was one of the original Inoue balloon investigators in the United States.

Dr. Bailey is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He also holds subspecialty board certification in Cardiovascular disease and Interventional cardiology. Dr. Bailey is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association and the Society for Catheterization and Intervention. He serves as a program co-director for the ACC 12 Summit as well as the SCAI national meeting. Dr. Bailey serves as the Faculty Advisor for cardiology fellows, Medical Residents medical students and biomedical engineering students. He has published manuscripts and is a reviewer for several journals. He also serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of "American Heart Journal" and "Catherization and Cardiovascular Intervention". He is a member of many professional organizations, including American Heart Association–Texas Affiliate and National Chapter, American College of Cardiology, and is on the Board of Directors for the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions. Dr. Bailey has been listed in "Best Doctors in America" and National Register’s "Who’s Who in Executives & Professionals".
